Is There No Shame? (today's large question)
And today's small question: Is there a Government Program to Pay for My Cosmetic Surgery?
In today’s post, we tackle the first question. And leave the second for another day.
Someone IS working to eliminate the Stigma Surrounding Cosmetic Surgery. Surely a worthy cause. And yes, Dear Questioner, I think we are heading toward a world where there is no shame in anything. All those old ethics people have simply been worrying us unnecessarily, telling us some things are bad or embarrassing. It all seems so passé and outré. (You can see evidence of the new approach in the fact that Jeffrey Toobin has resurrected his career. Although Momma will never ever ever get over that story.)
None of us want to live in a world where celebrities feel down because of a buccal procedure. (Pronunciation guide: sounds like belt “buckle.”)
Let me pause here in case you are not familiar with this term. You need to get familiar quickly because it is Sweeping Our Nation. Buccal surgery involves removing fat from cheeks (not those cheeks! Your mind! Honestly. That’s a problem too, but not the one I am talking about.) This is about the cheeks on your face. They take fat out of your face so you look more like a Swedish model, plus no one can ever call you “Fat Face” on the playground.

Gee, and here I was concerned about unnecessary surgeries and the fact that women in Africa need fistula repair.
Time out for a serious moment: Fistula is a real thing and Fistula Foundation is highly-rated by Charity Navigator. Information on their work can be found:

Back to fatty cheeks:
Where, Oh Where, will this end? Is this a reason to hate Americans? Personally, I think you could travel up and down my frame and find need of many many procedures along the way. More procedures than there is time or money for, actually.
The Oracle is sort of overwhelmed by all these questions right now. And that does not happen often. But I think a firm position is forming. Yes, the Oracle of Momma is ready to pronounce:
UNNECESSARY SURGERY IS BAD AND STUPID.
Put that in your fortune cookie.
And read about surgeries gone wrong: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32868718/
However, if you do decide to buccal up, or in, (instead of eating fewer donuts) be sure to send before and after pics. We want to see the work, You Cheeky Thing.
