‘Today’s question comes from Carl, who shares he is a spider.
Dear Oracle of Momma,
What’ s up with all the talk about a “web of lies?”
It seems to be used everywhere these days in your world. We get why the topic of lies comes up a lot. But constantly saying these lies are a “web” really hurts our feelings. Spiders do useful work. Every day, we create works of art that are both beautiful & purposeful. What more do you want from us? We are at the end of our webs.
We stand ready, on all legs, to match accomplishments with your species any day.
We expect every member of our community to work the night shift. No excuses. No shirking. No time off.
Yet when one of you humans messes up & gets caught, right away the talk starts about a “web of lies.”
Our webs are built on hard work, Madam, & spidey determination. We get knocked down, we carry on. We are hunted & sprayed, we take it in the chin. We endure torture (the number of legs our clan has lost…I could break down right now.) We’ve had entire communities wiped out….
Can you PLEASE come up with a new way to describe the George Santos-types in your own messed-up society?
Thank you.
Well, Momma was in a sombre mood after reading this. I think it’s high time we pay attention to our metaphors. Let’s support Carl and his larger point, with a Campaign for Fresh Metaphors! We should all be able to agree on this one.
